19 Midnight Movies

AV Club lists 19 Terrific Midnight Movies From The Last 10 Years.

The midnight-movie tradition that gave second life to films such as The Rocky Horror Picture Show and El Topo thrived in the pre-video '70s and early '80s, then shrank as viewers increasingly just stayed home to watch weird stuff at ungodly hours on their own. But there's much to be said for the pleasures of staying up late in a theater filled with strangeness-seeking, possibly under-the-influence fellow moviegoers, and watching something that makes more sense under those conditions than on the other side of midnight.

A few movies that are missing from AV's list.

The Big Lebowski
Being John Malkovich
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

This list would easily fill up the bulk of my list of favourites. What a great list.

Ohh Marmaduke

I've mentioned it before, I don't get Marmaduke. Thankfully Joe Mathlete is now taking the time each day to explain the complex multilayered workings of sublty that is Marmaduke.

Marmaduke has been eating expired foodstuffs out of the refrigerator, which gives his breath an unpleasant odor. Owner-Man is more disgusted by Marmaduke's bad breath than he is by his dog eating out of the refrigerator. I don't know what the dandelions are for.

Extras - Patrick Stewart

I love the end of this clip where Patrick Stewart is baffled that Ricky Gervais has never seen Star Trek.

V-Fest Sucked

Apparently not going to this past weekend's V-Fest was the best $120 I've never spent.

Ben Rayner and Vit Wagner of the Toronto Star recount the poorly attended corporate rock show.

Toronto's Ohbijou, the mainstage opener, takes the stage 18 minutes later than scheduled. The jubilant orchestral pop band, whose eight members equal about a third of the audience at the start of its set, seems unfazed.

An excellent blend of live action and computer animation. Minuscule is the pilot in a 78 part series of non-speaking animations from Futurikon

I could watch that fly crash and burn a hundred times and still laugh out loud.
