If you’ve been following Mordant Orange for a while you’ll know this isn’t the first year anniversary of the comic (closer to 3 1/2 years). It is in fact the 1 year anniversary of when I decided to take the comic from three days a week to five days a week. Much like everything else on this site I decided one day to do it and then sat down and did it. At the time I found doing three comics a week pretty hectic but I knew if I wanted to keep doing this I would find the time to get the extra comics done. I was pretty sure that I’d have to give up my second job on Saturday’s to meet five comics a week.
Well it’s been a year and I’m still working that second job (who know’s why?) and I’m still able to find the time to pump out those two extra comics a week. I’d like to think it’s because everyone’s kind comments (and sometimes hate…some people on stumbleupon, their fierce hatred amuses me) that helps me keep the ridiculous hours I do to keep the comics coming five days a week.
Thanks to everyone for stopping by and checking out my goofy comics and showing your continued support.
Not much in the way of comics in the last little bit, apologies. I’m trying to get back on schedule, hopefully next week will run more smoothly.
I thought I’d put up something a little different. After a extended break I’ve decided (and worked off enough rust to avoid embarrassing myself) to get back into life drawing.
Check it out at Flickr. (Caution contains quickly drawn nudity!)
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to make 2008 the best year ever for Mordant Orange!
Some 2008 highlights include:
Much like 2008, I have bigger plans for 2009 but I don’t want to commit to them in writing. The best I can do is stay tuned and I’ll announce them when they become more set in stone.
Thanks again everyone for stopping by day in and day out.
You may have noticed (but probably not) that when I redesigned the site I didn’t bother putting up the ‘vote for this comic’ buttons that ran down the side of the last site. The first reason was because they were kind of an eyesore. Secondly and probably more importantly, they didn’t justify the space they took up with the traffic they brought in.
I figured I was done with those ‘vote for me’ buttons until Is It Funny Today came along. At first glance it appears to be similar to those other vote for me sites but with an obvious tilt towards humor. But this site does it much differently (and so much obviously better it makes you wonder why it took so long for someone to come up with it).
How it works.
Viewers simply give a comic (not the site) and Up or a Down vote depending on whether they think the comic is funny or not. Each comic (not the site) for the day is ranked according to their funniness on a list that updates in real time. The list is reset daily, so you could be king of the heap one day and down and out the next.
You should stop by and check it out. I found it an excellent source for finding other comics I hadn’t heard of before.
Poking around I found this cool page, Mordant Orange on Is It Funny Today. Check out my top comics and the graph tracking my day to day funniness. Maybe bookmark it as a favourite.
Meant to mention this last week, Guest Strip Project is having a Donationathon all December long. This means there will be new comics every day in December. You can show your support by stopping by and picking a copy of The Kid’s Book Project, all funds go towards the Make-a-wish International Foundation. I was part of the donationathon back in August, here’s the guest strip I did.
I just noticed that the coupon code for 40% off calenders is still valid till Thursday. If you combine all the coupon codes that Zazzle is offering it’s a pretty sweet deal!

ZAZZLEPAYPAL - 10% off Order - expires TODAY!!
HOLIDAYSHIPS - Free shipping on orders over $45 - valid to Dec. 5
Meredith Gran of Octopus Pie has posted another awesome video of her comic making magic. This time she’s doing it all by hand. Inking….oohhh…
Gill by Norm Feuti launched today. Back in July Norm posted his submission package (it’s since been taken down) which was passed on by the major newspaper syndicates on his blog.
I blew through the package in 5 minutes, it was excellent but I could see why it was rejected immediately. About every third strip there was something that would just send the easily offended into a dizzy as they scrambled to find a pen and paper to write and complain.
As much as I enjoyed Gill, I got sad almost immediately after reading his submission because I knew that there would be no more. Well forget that because it looks like Gill is updating weekdays.
Norm also does another strip called Retail. I’d seen Retail a few times in the paper but never really went out of my way to find it (probably because it’s on King Features and their website is still subscription based…boo!!). That ends today, I’m going to pick up the Pretending You Care: The Retail Employee Handbook.
Zazzle is having a pretty great promotion right now through midnight on Friday. Calendars - 40% off when you use the code CALENDARSAVE. It was the perfect excuse for me to get my butt in gear and do 2009’s calendar.
MORDANTORANGE - WALL CALENDAR - 2009
When I was pulling together my favorite comics of the past year for this year’s calendar I noticed there was an abundance of relationship cartoons so I made a second calendar of all relationship cartoons.
MORDANTORANGE - WALL CALENDAR - RELATIONSHIPS - 2009
If you want a calendar be sure to purchase before midnight on Friday because the deal expires and you’ll have to pay full price.
Don’t forget the code for 40% off - CALENDARSAVE
It’s finally here. A new site. Mordant Orange 3.0
I can’t tell you how long I’ve been looking forward to launching a new site.
Now with the modern conveniences such as PREVIOUS and NEXT buttons to allow easy browsing of past comics.
If you run into any errors or something that just looks horrible or is hard to read. Please let me know.
