Books have arrived!
I’m now feverishly sketching and mailing away.
I’ve got plenty of stock so if you didn’t order yours during the pre-order stage. Order it now and I’ll ship it out right away.
Some pics of the proof copy of Mordant Orange – These Pirates Are Making Me Thirsty. Still available for pre-order. Shipping Late November. Order it here.
It’s finally here. Well almost. The pre-order is finally here. I’ve been secretly and furiously working away for the last few months putting together the first ever collection of comics from the site, Mordant Orange – These Pirates Are Making Me Thirsty. The comics featured in this collection are from the beginning (mid 2005) to late 2007.
I’m super excited to finally be able to share this information with you.
Some of the Details
Any books ordered during the pre-order will ship out sometime in late November.
The website was broke for most of Friday. I didn’t notice until right away because the front page loaded just fine. But if you tried to click on anything all the links were dead. I saw the stats earlier in the day (which were next to nothing)and just chalked it up to it being the a perfect storm of no new comic, the Friday before a long weekend and that suddenly everyone had become tired of the site. Luckily it appears I was wrong.
I think I fixed whatever caused everything to die (…give me a shout if you find something still broken @hypnobee). I was also able to update wordpress (which I don’t think really means anything to anyone except me) and I also updated the social bookmark / share thing at the bottom of the cartoons so now you can tweet your favourite comics.
Thanks to Naex for the heads up of the site being totally busted.
I noticed a serious drought in commenting lately.
About a month ago the site was getting hammered with spam so I started fiddling with the commenting settings in an effort to blacklist / stop the spam-bot that was attacking the site. I thought I had returned the settings back to normal after the attack stopped but I had left the ‘logged in to comment’ box still checked.
It should be all fixed now. Feel free to start commenting again. Good, bad or grammatically.
You’ll still need to put in a username and something in the email address box. I don’t use this information for anything other than pre-authorizing past commenters.
Happy commenting

If you’ve been following Mordant Orange for a while you’ll know this isn’t the first year anniversary of the comic (closer to 3 1/2 years). It is in fact the 1 year anniversary of when I decided to take the comic from three days a week to five days a week. Much like everything else on this site I decided one day to do it and then sat down and did it. At the time I found doing three comics a week pretty hectic but I knew if I wanted to keep doing this I would find the time to get the extra comics done. I was pretty sure that I’d have to give up my second job on Saturday’s to meet five comics a week.
Well it’s been a year and I’m still working that second job (who know’s why?) and I’m still able to find the time to pump out those two extra comics a week. I’d like to think it’s because everyone’s kind comments (and sometimes hate…some people on stumbleupon, their fierce hatred amuses me) that helps me keep the ridiculous hours I do to keep the comics coming five days a week.
Thanks to everyone for stopping by and checking out my goofy comics and showing your continued support.
Not much in the way of comics in the last little bit, apologies. I’m trying to get back on schedule, hopefully next week will run more smoothly.
I thought I’d put up something a little different. After a extended break I’ve decided (and worked off enough rust to avoid embarrassing myself) to get back into life drawing.
Check it out at Flickr. (Caution contains quickly drawn nudity!)
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to make 2008 the best year ever for Mordant Orange!
Some 2008 highlights include:
Much like 2008, I have bigger plans for 2009 but I don’t want to commit to them in writing. The best I can do is stay tuned and I’ll announce them when they become more set in stone.
Thanks again everyone for stopping by day in and day out.
You may have noticed (but probably not) that when I redesigned the site I didn’t bother putting up the ‘vote for this comic’ buttons that ran down the side of the last site. The first reason was because they were kind of an eyesore. Secondly and probably more importantly, they didn’t justify the space they took up with the traffic they brought in.
I figured I was done with those ‘vote for me’ buttons until Is It Funny Today came along. At first glance it appears to be similar to those other vote for me sites but with an obvious tilt towards humor. But this site does it much differently (and so much obviously better it makes you wonder why it took so long for someone to come up with it).
How it works.
Viewers simply give a comic (not the site) and Up or a Down vote depending on whether they think the comic is funny or not. Each comic (not the site) for the day is ranked according to their funniness on a list that updates in real time. The list is reset daily, so you could be king of the heap one day and down and out the next.
You should stop by and check it out. I found it an excellent source for finding other comics I hadn’t heard of before.
Poking around I found this cool page, Mordant Orange on Is It Funny Today. Check out my top comics and the graph tracking my day to day funniness. Maybe bookmark it as a favourite.
