Scrubs - First Signs of Life for 2005

Fall TV is in full swing and still no sight of Scrubs. I’ve heard rumblings that it’s been pushed back to mid-season (January) because of Zach Braff’s (JD) film schedule. This is the first sign I’ve seen of any thing new that’s Scrubs related.

TV guide is switching from Digest format (4 X 6 ?) to magazine format (8” X 10 ½”). I don’t know if this applies in Canada or Ontario or just the stores I visit where they switched a slightly larger format here about a year ago. As a send off the old format TV guide has put out 9 editions of recreated classic covers of using contemporary stars.

1. Scrubs Cancelled?
Relax, Scrubs will return! The production started on August 29th, and they'll produce 22 new episodes of the show.

2. When will it air?
NBC, the jackasses, didn't put Scrubs on their fall-schedule, but has kept them as a "backup plan" if one of the other shows fail. The show will return "mid-season". In other words, the show can turn up anywhere from October to January. Some rumours say that the show will start in November to keep up with the release of the next DVD-set. In a recent interview, Bill Lawrence says the fans of Scrubs should prepare themselves for Scrubs to return in October. Let's hope so!

3. Will there be a sixth season?
It's hard to foresee right now. Season 5 is the last season on the contract they have with NBC, but with Scrubs going into syndication and Scrubs recieving four Emmy-award nominations, this might give the show the popularity it deserves, and strengthen the NBC-exec's about continuing. If Scrubs does't get picked up by NBC, they can always hope that ABC will take it. Scrubs is a production by Touchstone, and NBC doesn't own a sh*t other than the airing-rights.

But: It all depends on Bill Lawrence. I would be dissapointed if he decides to end the show with the fifth season, since this show clearly has more to give. But I don't think the show would contiune further than a sixth season. If it makes you feel better, everyone at Scrubs loves their job and would probably continue with it until end of time....but the man himself, Lawrence, is the one who decides it all. And I bet he already know where and when he should stop.

4. OMG, is Sarah Chalke leaving for good?
Nope, she will be returning as one of the "main characters" in season 5. The only difference is that she'll be working at her new job. They've even built the set for her new hospital. Bill Lawrence said that she's been moved to a new place to make the show more realistic, and to let Elliot grow further. And who knows, maybe she'll hate her new job, and return to Sacred Heart after a while. (I think she'll love her new job, and if she get into trouble and need help, she'll turn to JD...they hook up, then they break up, and everything continues like it used to do)
