Grapefruit - The Car Fruit

In an attempt to start eating healthy I bought a grapefruit when I went grocery shopping on the weekend. I've had grapefruit before but usually it's split in half and sprinkled with sugar and you scoop out the good of the grapefruit and toss the rest.

I had different plans. I figured I could just peel it and eat it like an orange. So this morning on my way out the door to work I grabbed the grapefruit and jumped in the car.

What a disaster. It took me almost the entire hour drive to eat a single grapefruit. To start it took over 10 minutes to peel the stupid thing, the rind kept breaking off in tiny pieces. After it was completely peeled it still had a thick layer of the fleshy part of the skin on the grapefruit. After I ate a few pieces with the really thick rind still on it I figured out you could peel it off fairly easily.

It was a total mess, I had just cleaned out the car so I didn't have a garbage bag or any napkins. I ended up chucking the rind on the floor on the passenger side and any seeds of the membrane that seperate the pieces of grapefruit that I didn't eat out the window. I was reduced to wiping my sticky fingers all over my jeans, I'm sure when I get back out to my car the steering wheel is going to be all sticky.

I think next time I'll just spend the two minutes and just eat it in the kitchen.

I have seen your kitchen, it would be safer and more hygenic eating in the car.
