It's not a rip-off it's an observation of how things in life are really ridiculous. When you go camping you go to get away from it all not to have a wi-fi connection so you can get up to the minute stats on your fantasy baseball team.

If you want to unplug, don't bring your laptop. I think it's nice to have the option still. For some people it might be the only way they can get away for a while.
