Top 10 CD's of 2006
It's almost the end of the year and with only greatest hits collection hitting the shelves I think it's safe to unveil my top 10 list of CD's for 2006 (in no particular order).
![]() Islands - Return to the Sea I've been waiting for this album since I found out about The Unicorns | ![]() Built to Spill - You in Reverse The guitar just seems to go on forever in most of their songs, an excellent album for the road. |
![]() Band of Horses - Everything All the Time What's not to like about this CD. | ![]() M. Ward - Post-War I love everything I ever heard of his. It sounds very minimalist but when I saw him live his hands are going a mile a minute. It brought a whole new light to the album. |
![]() The Decemeberists - The Crane Wife Colin Meloy like M. Ward is a fantastic story teller. You'll have to give this album a few runs through before you fall in love with it. Decemeberists will be on The Colbert Report, December 20th to take part in a guitar solo duel against Stephen Colbert, it will be crazy. | ![]() Tapes 'n Tapes - The Loon Early in the year they were being toted as the 2006 edition of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah |
![]() The Thermals - The Body, the Blood, the Machine My latest find of the year on this list and I haven't taken it out of my player yet. | ![]() Silversun Pickups - Carnavas They fill the hole inside of my that was left by The Smashing Pumpkins |
![]() Artic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not So many great lines, so many catchy songs. I love this CD. | ![]() Grandaddy - Just Like the Fambly Cat The final album from Grandaddy |
Other honourable mentions include:
![]() My Morning Jacket - Okonokos It's a live CD, otherwise it would've been right up there. The songs are more stretched out and really come to life over the studio recordings. Anyone who's on the fence about these guys do yourself a favour and get it. | ![]() Thom Yorke - The Eraser I love Radiohead |
![]() Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins - Rabbit Fur Coat I originally picked this up for the great cover of the Traveling Wilbury's "Handle With Care" that I couldn't get out of my head. Jenny Lewis voice is so great you can't help but like the whole album. |
If I were do redo this list in February one or more of these might sneak on to the list. I heard a few songs of each but I haven't had a chance to go through the entire disc yet.
![]() | The Little Ones Sing Song | ![]() | Viva Voce Get Yr Blood Sucked Out |
![]() | Tokyo Police Club A Lesson in Crime | ![]() | Malajube Trompe-L'Oeil |
![]() | Land of Talk Applause Cheer Boo Hiss |
Largehearted Boy has a colossal list of the years best, be sure to check it out.
